Equiray chooses Visbion Image Book for new mobile equine x-ray service
Visbion’s intuitive portable PACS, Image Book has been chosen by Equiray to provide viewing, storage and distribution of equine x-ray images taken by skilled technicians for the company's new mobile service.
Image Book is a laptop based review workstation. It offers all the features and functionality of a high end workstation but with the added advantage of being fully portable. Equiray is combining Image Book with an Uno portable x-ray machine and the innovative solution has been supplied by Visbion distributor, Celtic SMR. The DICOM interface within Image Book allows the x-ray images taken by the Uno to be immediately available for mobile review.
Equiray visits a site at the request of a vet. The x-rays are taken by Equiray’s experienced technician, with the images available instantly for review by the attending vet on the high resolution screen of the Image Book. All images are emailed instantly to the vet or supplied to the practice on a CD or memory stick and then stored securely on the Image Book for a 3 month period. Over 20,000 images can be successfully stored on the Image Book.
For farriers, the image can be displayed on screen so that they can see the condition of the hoof before they start work and then another x-ray may be taken after the work has been completed. Both images can be viewed together so that a comparison can be seen.
Beryl Williams, Equiray’s Managing Director said “The Image Book ensures that we have all the information the vet needs quickly on-screen. We find the system very easy to use; x-rays can be scrolled through and quickly selected to view. Having all this functionality in a portable laptop makes it the perfect partner for our portable x-ray unit.”
Equiray is currently offering the mobile service in the South Wales area with plans to expand to other areas, particularly those more rural or remote parts of the country.
