Visbion provides cardiac data management for NECVN
Visbion’s innovative technology solutions have been chosen by North of England Cardiovascular Network (NECVN) to deliver secure and rapid storage, transfer and viewing of cardiac data for the nine acute Trusts in the network.
The robust regional solution allows for all cardiac data including angiogram, echocardiography, ECGs and associated reports, to be encrypted and transferred from and to any Trust within the clinical network. This data can be accessed for viewing via the Visbion image web on any workstation in any hospital.
The Visbion solution is built around the innovative Image Cube and utilises other Visbion software components to provide a tailored regional solution which is sensitive to local workflow.
Within the project, the Trusts involved have addressed their local data management and storage needs with some taking the opportunity to install dedicated storage solutions or to introduce a full Visbion Cardiology PACS. The project has enabled organisations to addresses the risk and governance problems inherent in cardiology data storage, management and transfer.
Mark O’Herlihy, Visbion’s Healthcare Sales Manager said “Using Visbion’s technology will greatly improve image and data sharing for the cardiac network. The ability to make all data quickly and easily available at the point of care, offers a wide range of administrative and clinical efficiencies which will ultimately result in improved patient care.“
Carole Dodd, Service Improvement Manager, North of England Cardiovascular Network, said “Cardiology services in the North East of England have various methods of managing patient data electronically, complicated by the specific nature of cardiology functional imaging and the exclusion in many cases from access to in-house radiology PACS systems.
NECVN were approached to facilitate effective use of cardiology patient data that will improve the patient journey and reduce waste in terms of waiting times, unequal access to specialist opinion and treatment, and ineffective administrative processes. The Visbion solution provides not only safe and rapid exchange of patient data between Trusts, but has provided the opportunity for cardiology services to reach appropriate standards in terms of clinical and information governance.”

Visbion Image Cube installed in over 50 mobile scanning units
Visbion has announced that it is providing Alliance Medical with its innovative Image Cube technology. The project encompasses over 50 mobile scanning trucks as well as a number of static sites.
Visbion Image Cube is a small appliance that has been installed on each mobile scanning unit, allowing any truck to easily connect with any hospital RIS\PACS for rapid and secure transfer of images and modality worklists. The ability to connect any truck to any hospital system without reconfiguration of the scanner has enabled Alliance Medical to be much more flexible and efficient in their logistics.
Images are received from any standard modality in Dicom 3.0 format. The Image Cube then caches those images, prior to compressing them in a lossless fashion, and transmitting them in secure encrypted format to their destination, even handling multiple destinations simultaneously. In addition, the Image Cube can receive and forward Dicom modality worklist queries to enable the complete end-to-end workflow to be implemented.
Stefan Claesen, Visbion’s CEO said “Image Cube offers Alliance a more efficient workflow with significant time savings both for the Radiographers on the scanning trucks and the hospital PACS Managers. It totally eliminates the need to produce CDs and then manually load them into PACS.”
Chris Cook, Alliance Medical’s IT Director commented “Visbion has been an exciting and innovative company to work with. We have found the entire team to be flexible in their approach and extremely responsive to our very specific needs.”
Visbion and Hitachi Data Systems Collaborate
Visbion has today announced that it will be partnering with Hitachi Data Systems to provide a series of DICOM interfaces for Hitachi disk storage solutions.
The Partnership will allow hospitals to store all types of images directly into the Hitachi disk systems; HCP, HNAS, AMS and USP. It will also enable query and retrieval of those images, either direct to any workstation or to any PACS system.
As well as working with PACS systems from all vendors, Hitachi and Visbion offers a wide support for DICOM objects from all departments, including Radiology, Cardiology, Mammography, Ophthalmology and Medical Illustration.
Stefan Claesen, Visbion’s CEO said “We are delighted to be working with Hitachi Data Systems. Visbion’s solutions are modality independent and highly scalable, and a perfect fit for this type of application.”
“As one of our trusted partners within the healthcare sector, we look forward to continuing our work with Visbion and the significant opportunities which the partnership will bring to our customers,” said Mark Clark, EMEA Director for E-Health, Hitachi Data Systems. “Together with Visbion, we will offer healthcare professionals faster and more efficient access to stored information, reducing time – and consequently resources – spent on retrieving patient data. In an industry where decision-making time can literally be life-or-death, this development can only work to improve the standards of patient care and help to make IT systems smarter, faster and more effective. ”
