Visbion Install PACS Software in NHS Treatment Centre

Alliance Medical has installed Visbion PACS Software for diagnostic image review and orthopaedic planning at Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre.

The Visbion PACS Software allows staff at Barlborough to view patient images anywhere in the hospital, in full diagnostic quality using a standard web browser. The software complements the RIS and image routing solution already in place.

The Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre provides high quality specialist orthopaedic care for the people of Trent and South Yorkshire. Visbion’s Image Viewer software is fully integrated with OrthoView; the planning and templating solution will be used by the team of Orthopaedic Surgeons to facilitate pre-operative planning and help ensure successful surgical outcomes.

Visbion Image Web distributes images in full DICOM Lossless format throughout the facility and provides the ability to view and manipulate images in operating theatres, surgeons’ offices and even on the wards. The Visbion Image Viewer workstation software gives the Centre the ability to also upload images of patients referred from other sites and has full desktop integration with the RIS, ensuring seamless workflow.

Stefan Claesen, CEO, Visbion said “Visbion PACS has given the staff at Barlborough the flexibility that they needed to be able to view images in full diagnostic quality and plan surgical procedures in different locations throughout the hospital. We are delighted that our PACS solution has been chosen by Alliance Medical and we are already working with other NHS Treatment Centres to provide similar functionality.”

Visbion Unveils Disaster Recovery Solutions

Visbion presented their ImageSafe solutions at a meeting in St Helens attended by over 80 people from a number of Trusts in the North West and West Midlands area. The aim of the meeting was to highlight the risks involved with image storage and explore the potential solutions available to combat the 20 week recovery scenario should a disaster occur.

Visbion ImageSafe is a Managed Service delivered by Visbion in partnership with Xograph Healthcare. Offering a true disaster recovery as well as a business continuity solution, ImageSafe can be delivered in two formats:

1. Independent back-up self-contained PACS packed into a flight case, which can be deployed into an existing or alternative server room

2. Incorporated into a 20ft container; complete with “silent-run” diesel generator, small server room with air conditioning, radiology reading room and PACS workstation

For both the above options a monthly retainer is charged to guarantee availability - with a deployment charge payable only when the service is actually needed. As a fully Managed Service, the Trust may also be able to benefit from full VAT recovery and the elimination of capital charges. There is a single contact telephone number for rapid deployment.

The image management system within ImageSafe is based on Visbion IPACS, a full web-based system with diagnostic quality images displayed quickly and easily within a web browser at any suitable workstation or PC.

Stefan Claesen, Visbion’s CEO said “We believe that ImageSafe is a complete disaster recovery solution; not just another set of servers which sit around and do nothing for most of the time and are obsolete when disaster strikes. Disasters are not selective as to which part of the hospital they may hit. For example a flood or a lightning strike are very likely to take out more than one server room and then standard contingency plans are rendered useless. With a duty of care to maintain should a disaster ever strike, we believe that ImageSafe offers ultimate peace of mind and security for a Trust.”

Peter Staff, MD of Xograph Healthcare added “Xograph has extensive experience in providing disaster recovery solutions as a Managed Service to public bodies such as the Home Office and British Airports Authority. The company has been established for over 40 years with engineers and resources available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, across the country.”

Visbion Image Safe Ensures Up-time for Imaging Services

Visbion’s innovative Image Safe debuted at UKRC. This pre-packaged back-up PACS offers a cost-effective solution against escalating maintenance charges and provides unrivalled protection from PACS down-time.

Image Safe provides temporary storage for over 6 months worth of images and forwards exams back to the main PACS once connectivity is restored. Visbion Image Safe can use existing workstations and includes advanced functionality, such as MIP and MPR, as well as diagnostic quality review, all from within a standard web browser. With the capability of integrating with an existing RIS system using HL7, the solution is both quick and easy to deploy.

Stefan Claesen, Visbion’s CEO said ‘Being totally independent from the National Programme PACS deployment, Image Safe can easily be installed with any existing PACS and RIS infrastructure. It is an invaluable stop-gap solution for the inevitable PACS down-time’

Image World Helps MR Therapy Centre Increase Referrals

Visbion’s installation of its leading-edge technology at the MR Therapy Centre at St Mary’s hospital in Paddington has had a significant effect on the service that the Centre now offers.

The MR Therapy Centre provides a high quality Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) diagnostic service to private patients referred by an appropriate medical clinician. For these patients, speed and efficiency are key to providing a first-class service. The installation of Visbion’s Image World has greatly improved turnaround times and allows referring clinicians to access images remotely from any web-enabled PC.
Professor Wladyslaw Gedroyc, who runs the Centre said “Our private patient MRI business has been steadily growing over the last 2 years, and we attribute this largely to the adoption of the Visbion system, owing to the faster and more reliable service that we can now offer to our referring clinicians”

The images from the MRI scanner are uploaded to Image World using a dedicated Visbion Workstation and can then be viewed via the web from any PC, offering ultimate flexibility to clinicians and eliminating need for sending out encrypted CD’s.

Visbion Image World provides safe and secure storage of all records on dual hosted servers, without the need to invest in an expensive IT infrastructure. The system provides a quick, simple and cost-effective way to meet the demanding storage and image distribution needs of a busy imaging centre.
